Abstract

This article deals with the place of Rome-Byzantium in Late Antique Jewish Apocalyptic texts such as the Sefer Zerubabbel, the Sefer Eliyahu and the Nistarot of Rabbi Simeon ben Yohai and, also, the karaite exegesis of the Book of Daniel. These texts reflect eschatological jewish interpretation of contemporary events from the 3rd century onwards, like the crisis of the Roman Empire, the Persian occupation of the Land of Israel and the Muslim invasion.
