The Institute of International Studies of the University of Chile publishes this special issue of International Studies on trans-Pacific cooperation within the framework of APEC, on the occasion of the various technical meetings that this Association will hold in Chile in 2004 and which will culminate with the summit of Heads of State and Government. Trans-Pacific cooperation is a theme that has occupied the Institute since its creation in 1966, even before the first expressions of cooperation across the Pacific. Finally, this has become an objective and a national and regional heritage to which this special issue wishes to contribute.
