In this paper, the internal political significance of the privatization process is analyzed by comparing two countries: Chile and Great Britain. To test the hypothesis that privatization was a political response to end the economic scheme guided by the State, the emergence and development of Keynesianism in Western Europe and, its counterpart, the State of Compromise of the Latin American Southern Cone is explained. It is intended to show how in both cases the privatization and market-oriented economic policies of the 1970s coincided with the ideas of conservative forces that ended the previous model. Then the political effects of privatization are highlighted in terms of the recomposition of internal forces or coalitions and the profound changes in the state structure. Finally, certain research perspectives are mentioned that would allow us to truly understand the nature of this phenomenon.
