Abstract

The Institute for International Studies was created on the assumption that the study of Contemporary History is possible. But as such, this is assumption can be objected. Is the study of this discipline really feasible? The realit is that we are supposed to study Contemporary History in any democratic country. Faced with the three objections about its feasibility, namely: lack of reliable information, the ability to appreciate recent events in perspective and the fact the we are taking part in contemporary events, it is argued that the historians must be prepared to step back, be it 10 or a thousand years in time, making use of almost all of History of humanity to conduct their research.
